Project 03_Poster Design

For this project will be designing and submitting a poster design to a student art contest. You may use Illustrator, Photoshop, or a mixture of both to create your end result. 

Goals:

• Create an InDesign poster layout using typography, color and pattern/texture as your primary design tools
• Demonstrate ability to design a composition with type tool, text frames, Character and Paragraph panel formatting, graphic frames, Selecting/Direct Selecting, recoloring, creating outlines, placing and fitting images within type. 
• Apply and describe an intentional color scheme in the composition
• Design the composition to include emphasis, balance, and visual hierarchy
• Combine three different fonts, including a combination of serif, sans-serif, script, display type, body copy, header and sub header in a layout to express the quote messages

You will research a famous quote about diversity, then design a poster/artwork around that quote.The first step is to select an inspiring or meaningful quote to use in your poster. This quote will need to convey the ideas and themes placed in the "Call to Artists."  This particular contest is surrounded around diversity.   A few favorite quotes I would suggest are: 
“A lot of different flowers make a bouquet.”—Muslim Origin
"Strength lies in differences, not in similarities." --Stephen R. Covey

You may use one of the above or do your own research and find your favorite quote.   Try and select a quote that is no more than two sentences.   Here are a couple collections of quotes:

Your artwork/design needs to be in landscape (horizontal) orientation and a minimum of 300 dpi.

CONDUCT RESEARCH:

Visual reference is important in identifying a theme and style for designers.  It is also a great source of inspiration and ideation with regard to style.
Using a web browser, research Google images for  the following:
"Bauhaus poster design"
"Swiss style poster design"
"Paul Rand Poster design"
"Milton Glaser Poster design"
For each of the image searches above, find two images of a poster or other design related images that inspires you or engages you in a way that makes you admire the quality of the design.    Paste the images in a document and briefly describe what about the image appeals to you most.  This can be any of the following visual characteristics:

• color
• typography
• Balance
• rhythm
• imagery
